Panthera fulgerus is the scientific name for the lion-like Pokémon: Shinx, Luxio and Luxray. They are members of the Felidae family and Panthera genus, the roaring cats. Its scientific name means "lightning panther", however, the origin of the word Panthera is unknown. See below. The males are larger than females and depending on where they are from (e.g. Africa), they can weigh up to 500 lbs (in extremes) and some can be up to 7 feet tall. The females are smaller and their manes are smaller. It is mainly found in Sinnoh and Africa however, they can be found in Europe, Britain and southern Asia, where they are extremely rare and endangered. They were once found in South America, where they became extinct.

They can live up to fifty years, but in captivity they can live up to 66 years. Continuous fights with others can injure them, causing their lifespan to go down a few years. They inhabit forests and savannas but occasionally old abandoned buildings in cities. They are social cats, living in groups with related females and their young and a few males. Brothers tend to live with each other and form their own prides. They are one of the apex predators of their ecosystem, competing with other large mammals. They can hunt Pokémon up to the size of an Ursaring. Though most are scared of humans, they may attack humans when cornered. They rarely eat humans unless there is no food source left.

The generic component of its scientific designation, Panthera fulgerus, often is presumed to derive from Greek pan- ("all") and ther ("beast"), but this may be a folk etymology. Although it came into English through the classical languages, it shows a striking resemblance to Sanskrit pundarikam "tiger," which in turn may come from pandarah "whitish-yellow"[1].

Fulgerus means "lightning".

The Sinnoh colour morph is the most recognised. It is black and blue and having yellow eyes and yellow stripes on their legs. They tend to be small, because of the climate of Sinnoh.

The African morph tends to be the largest. They are lighter in colour and lack the yellow stripes on the legs. Some are even whitish.

They are the smallest subspecies. They are mostly found in forests and they are nocturnal, tending to hide from humans. They are afraid of them.

Southern EuropeEdit

They are slightly larger than the Sinnoh morph. They have green eyes and lack yellow stripes.

Southern AsiaEdit

This is the rarest morph. They are slightly smaller than the African morph. They tend to be darker blue and jet black.
